We build elegant & impactful immersive experiences.

Basenji Interactive is an immersive media studio in San Francisco creating VR & AR applications for training, science, architecture, and entertainment since 2013.

Services

We have more than a decade of experience building spatial applications for clients at every scale, from small prototypes for lean startups, to large installations for major global brands.

Featured Work

Stanford Virtual Heart

We partnered with Stanford Medical and Lighthaus Inc to craft a VR training application that enabled pediatric cardiologists to quickly and accurately demonstrate complex congenital heart defects and their corrective procedures.

Basenji Interactive provided end-to-end application development, including VR interaction design, 3D anatomical modeling, and blood flow simulation.

LifeCraft

In partnership with Smart Sparrow and Lighthaus Inc we transformed a high school biology course into a rich VR experience, offering students a visceral hands-on approach to learning the inner workings of a human cell.

Basenji Interactive optimized and integrated high resolution 3D assets, created all spatial interactions, and implemented a mission system guided by existing specifications and learning objectives.

Thresholds

In 2017 we collaborated with VMI to bring Mat Collishaw's art installation Thresholds to life in VR. We integrated existing artwork into a VR-ready environment for deployment to a proprietary mobile VR rig, achieving unprecedented rendering quality, performance, and mobility.

Once delivered, VMI carefully synchronized our virtual environment with physical props and real-world architecture, allowing participants to reach out and touch the beautiful artifacts surrounding them.

Allen Telescope Array Digital Twin

We were invited by the SETI Institute to the Allen Telescope Array, and worked closely with their head of operations to map the site. Basenji Interactive constructed an accurate 3D digital twin of the facility which tracked antenna positions and operational status, and updated the virtual model in real time.

In addition, we produced a public video demonstrating the operation of a radio telescope antenna.

Chase Match Point

In 2015 Helios Interactive approached us to build an immersive experience for Chase to be revealed at the US Open. We delivered a dynamic tennis match in VR using motion capture assets and a hand-modeled replica of the stadium.

Our team also built custom microcontroller hardware to trigger an air puffer at the exact moment a virtual tennis ball zipped past the player's head, adding an intense physical element to the VR experience.

SCALE game

The team at CubeHeart partnered with us to build a mind-bending physics puzzle game called Scale. We worked with CubeHeart's designers to model a fully realized 3D world in a low poly style, and collaborated with their engineering team to architect and implement the game's core infrastructure and interaction systems.
